How to export your Instagram information

Follow these steps to get your Instagram export ZIP file ready for Carnets.

Step 1

Your Instagram memories deserve a safer home. Here's how to get your data out — it takes less than 5 minutes, on your phone or your computer.

Step 2

Open Instagram and go to your profile — bottom right on mobile. Then tap the three lines in the top right corner to open the main menu. On a computer, look for the same menu icon on the left sidebar.

Step 3

Tap Settings & activity, then Accounts Centre — this is Meta's central hub for your data. Inside, find 'Your information and permissions'. This is where your data lives.

Step 4

Tap 'Export your information', then 'Create export'. Instagram will open a browser window — this is normal. Tap the blue 'Create export' button to start.

Step 5

Three settings matter here. Customise information → Media only (that's all Carnets needs). Date range → your trip dates only, not your entire Instagram history. Format → JSON. Medium quality is fine — it keeps the file manageable.

Step 6

Choose 'Export to device'. Instagram will ask for your password, then send you an email with a download link — usually within an hour. Download the ZIP file. That's the file you'll upload to Carnets. You're ready.
